Who does TheraBright serve?

TheraBright services children aged 3 and older with speech and/or language disorders, who are able to participate in direct therapy in any of our available settings.

What services does TheraBright provide?

TheraBright Speech Therapy offers free 15-minute consultations, screenings, evaluations, and intervention/therapy sessions to support children with speech sound disorders, expressive or receptive language disorders, stuttering, or other communication challenges. We are also able to target phonological awareness and other areas of early literacy within speech therapy sessions.

  • Consultation - 15 minutes, by phone or video call — free!

  • Screenings - 15-30 minutes, in person or virtual; includes a screen of both speech and receptive/expressive language — $20 (if you move forward with an evaluation, the cost of the screening will be put toward to cost of the evaluation)

  • Evaluation - in-person or virtual; depending on results of the screening, either a speech-only evaluation, a language-only evaluation, or a speech and language evaluation will be recommended; includes full written evaluation report including assessment scores/results, informal observations, background information, and personalized recommendations for intervention

    • Speech-Only Evaluation - up to 45 minutes — $180

    • Language-Only Evaluation - 45-60 minutes — $180

    • Speech and Language Evaluation (Comprehensive) - 60-90 minutes — $250

  • Therapy - 30-60 minutes depending on individual needs and preferences, in-person or virtual

    • $60 for 30-minute sessions (often recommended for children targeting only speech or only language)

    • $80 for 45-minute sessions (often recommended for children targeting both speech and language)

    • $100 for 60-minute sessions (may be recommended for increased intervention intensity for speech-only, language-only, or both speech and language)

Where are TheraBright services available?

TheraBright offers in-person services in Northeast Kansas (within the client’s home or in a convenient community location), typically covering Johnson County and Wyandotte County. If you are interested in pursuing in-person services and live in Northeast Kansas outside of these counties, please contact us.

Virtual services are currently available for individuals living anywhere in Kansas, Wisconsin, or North Dakota.

What does an evaluation involve?

The evaluation process will differ for each child, based on parent concerns and SLP observations during the screening and/or at the beginning of the evaluation. Parents/caregivers will be asked to complete intake and pre-evaluation forms which will further guide the assessment process and will be used as part of the evaluation report. The evaluation will contain standardized evaluations (when able), and any number of non-standardized assessment measures. When early literacy/reading skills are also a concern, additional assessment tasks may be completed to obtain more information in these areas.

For each evaluation, the SLP will prioritize establishing a safe, respectful environment and building rapport within a therapeutic relationship with your child to encourage optimal response to interventions. Each evaluation is fully customized to the needs of your child.

What does a TheraBright therapy session look like?

The SLP will work with you to develop customized speech and language therapy goals to target with your child in order to address your areas of concern and areas of difficulty that presented throughout the evaluation process. Therapy looks different for each child, as it is geared towards each individual’s specific interests, needs, response to various strategies, and personal progress. Sessions may include play-based language activities, shared book reading, speech sound drill, or more. Home practice will be provided to reinforce newly-learned skills and support generalization outside of therapy sessions for faster progress.

We prioritize the inclusion of evidence-based practice in the use of all intervention strategies, supports, and service delivery methods. Children commonly receive speech therapy 1-2 times per week, but this will be individualized to your child’s needs and can be as many as 3-5 times per week or as a little as 1 time every other week.

Can I use my insurance?

At this time, TheraBright Speech Therapy is private pay only. This means that we do not directly bill insurance. Payment is due at the time of service by cash or card. However, depending on your insurance plan, you may be able to request reimbursement for services using a superbill (see below).

In some cases, private pay services can actually be more beneficial than directly billing insurance. For example, insurance companies often require a formal diagnosis and proof of significant delay in order to approve coverage. If your child doesn’t meet those criteria — even if speech therapy would still be highly beneficial — insurance may deny services. As a private pay provider, TheraBright is able to offer therapy based on your child’s needs, not just insurance qualifications.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes the information insurance companies require for reimbursement, such as diagnosis codes, treatment codes, and payment details. After paying for your sessions, you can request a superbill to submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement.

Important: Reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on your individual insurance plan. If you plan to request a superbill for reimbursement, you will need to contact your insurance provider beforehand to ask about your out-of-network benefits. Payment for services is still required at the time of service by cash or card, regardless of insurance reimbursement.
